Dismantling the Idols of Evangelicalism
Between 2020 and 2025, I wrote Evangelical Idolatry as a personal confession and a call to repentance.
Over the past 30 years or so, I and many other pastors in American Evangelicalism have become complicit in perpetuating some incredibly damaging idols that have actually led our people away from Jesus rather than toward him. Instead, our ministries have discipled countless people into a militant conservatism that makes enemies of our neighbors rather than loving them.
It wasn’t our intent, but it was the result.
These days, I’m doing what I can to right that wrong.
