On Tuesday, August 2, 2005, my grandfather, John Spencer, went to be with the Lord. He had been struggling with illness for some time, and just this last week was granted final relief from the God whom he served throughout his life.
I didn’t know my grandfather anywhere as well as I wish that I had. He lived in New Jersey, and I grew up in California. The times that I really got to interact with him when I was old enough to remember were tainted by the language limitations he experienced as the result of a stroke.
Nevertheless, it is clear to me that those who knew him also knew how much he loved Jesus.
Many things can be said about my grandpa, and I think that over the next couple of days, I’ll hear many stories that I don’t yet know, but when it all comes down to it, you just can’t deny that the greatest legacy a person could live is that all who knew him knew his love for Jesus.
I think that’s cool, and wouldn’t mind if some day someone said that about me.
