Phil Gottschalk has been a missionary in Europe for a number of years,
and he just sent me this unbelievable email. I’m quoting it here:
Here’s an e-mail I just received. It is typical of what we have
experienced for the past nearly 20 years in Europe. This friend is
studying Dutch in Leuven, Belgium.
- In our Dutch class our teacher was talking about holidays and
mentioned that Christmas was one. My seat mate, in French, whispered,
“What is Christmas?”- I told her that it was the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth. Then
she asked me, “Who is Jesus Christ?”- Pray for my class where there are people from Russia/Chenchen,
Mongolia, China, Morocco, Iran, Hungary and Ethiopia. Many of them are
“doing” Ramadan this month. Pray that I will be a witness of God’s love
and pray that I’ll do well on my exam today.- Blessings,
- Marjorie
- I told her that it was the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth. Then
Our friends, Marjorie & Martin Webber work at the Evangelical
Theological Faculty in Leuven, Belgium. Martin has taught many times at
Tyndale. They now live in Belgium after having served in Ivory
Coast.
To get a feeling for just how clueless Europeans are about God and Christ
take a look at this video
http://www.gemission.org/about/gem.mov
In the US 1 in 5 is an evangelical Christian (about 20%). In Uganda
almost every other person is an evangelical Christian (46.3%).
In the EU only 1 in every 100 people is an evangelical Christian (1%). In
Austria it’s only 1 in 250 (0.4%). In some countries like Serbia the
number is staggering 1 in 1650 people is a born again Christian (0.0006%)
In Thailand 1 in 143 is an evangelical Christian (0.7%). In Egypt 1 in 40
is an evangelical Christian (2.5%)!
Pray for Europe! Once it was a bastion of Christendom. Now it is the DARK
continent. Africa and Asia are sending missionaries to Europe! Some have
been our students at Tyndale and ETF!
In Jesus,
Phil Gottschalk
